Howdy!
Shay here-- I never would have imagined that I'd end up calling Reno/Tahoe home but man, am I glad I can.
Having grown up in a town west of Fort Worth, TX, I grew up playing sports (mostly baseball & basketball) and spending time with family. My most fond memories of my childhood were when I got to go to my grandparents farm to hang out or work. Being out there taught me some of the greatest life lessons I'll never forget.
Throughout school, I always enjoyed math. My brain is highly analytical so math always made me feel at home (I'm a self-proclaimed math geek).
I ended up attending West Virginia University to play baseball where I ended up graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance. Unbeknownst to me, going to school in WV would change my life forever. My baseball career ended after an injury during my second year of school and that's when I fell in love with the mountains (and snow sports).
About a year after school, I moved to Tahoe to enjoy the mountains and the snow. I initially thought I'd be in Tahoe for one winter, but I quickly became encapsulated by all that Tahoe has to offer and decided I wanted to try my hardest to call Tahoe home full-time. At the time, I was 2 years out of college with little skills or life experience.
I worked an accounting job for a CPA firm in Incline Village for 2 years, then transitioned to a role in the Mortgage Industry at the beginning of 2020 (before COVID). The next 3 years were amazing as I worked for Bryan as his Transaction Coordinator/Loan Officer Assistant. It was an opportunity for me to learn from one of the best in the industry, and that I did.
During that time, my wife and I purchased a fixer-upper in Tahoe and spent every weekend for the next year earning our sweat equity. Whether it was painting the walls, laying flooring, installing baseboards, or fixing wall outlets, we were doing it all (one of the pictures above is of my wife building our laundry room door).
Always wanting to learn new skills, I moved into the world of Tech where I spent 2 years as a Business Development Representative at a Cybersecurity company. I'm forever thankful for the skills and knowledge I learned there.
However, I learned that finance is really where I do my best work, so I transitioned back into the Mortgage Industry as a full-time Mortgage Advisor and have been doing that ever since.
My wife and I have two cats and we love the outdoors. When I'm not working, you can find me playing basketball, beach volleyball, surfing, snowboarding, drinking coffee, or hanging out with my friends & family.
Thanks for getting to know me-- I hope to talk to you soon.
Warm regards,
Shay
